Kiev, Ukraine

Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe

The historic city of Kiev (Kyiv) is the country's capital.

In 1945, Ukrainian SSR became one of the co-founder members of the United Nations.

On 26th April 1986, a nuclear reactor exploded at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

We stayed near Independence Square in the heart of Kiev

The citizens were protesting the current government and assembled in the square

It was a peaceful protest/revolution

Each side had their own colors

As every European country, we encountered many people protesting U.S. policies

In 2004, Victor Yanukovich, Prime Minister was declared winner of the elections, which had been rigged

The results caused a public outcry in support of the opposition candidate, Victor Yuschenko

They challenged the results and lead the peaceful Orange Revolution
