Lhasa, Tibet

Lhasa is the capital city of the autonomous region of Tibet in China

The magnificent and world famous Potala Palace

Two From Blue did three shows at the Tang Club in Lhasa

The Tang Club is one of the hottest clubs in the city and was packed all three nights

We did a mix of originals, covers and Chinese songs

Before and after our sets was thumbing house DJ music

Standing room only

Chinese clubs always have great lighting and color

The Potala Palace was once the seat of the Tibetan government and residence of the Dalai Lama

All 11,000 feet and more, Tibet is called the rooftop of the world

Tibet was off limits to travelers from the 1950's to 1980's

The Tibetans are very friendly people

This vast plateau is the size of three Texas’s

Tibet is still not an easy place to visit and foreigners need a special permit to enter

The locals were taken by Michael's beard

Michael draws a crowd as he plays a native instrument

Yak butter tea is the popular local drink

Yak meat is a staple of the Tibetan diet

You can get a taxi anywhere in town for $1.40; flat rate

Lhasa is the sacred city and spiritual center of the Tibetan world

The 1300 year old Jokhang Temple

Barkhor Square, great shopping area

Buddhist monks and pilgrims are everywhere, not only at the monasteries

The oxygen content in the air is only about 70% and even slight pollution affects residents

We stayed at the Four Points Sheraton

Potala Palace; an architectural wonder even by modern standards

A view of Lhasa from Potala Palace

The Tibetans here (most are actually pilgrims) are captivating

Potala Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Snacking in a "yogurt shop" with the owner

The Potala Palace is 13 stories high and has more than 1000 rooms

Tickets are limited to get inside the palace

A "hot pot" meal

“Lhasa Express” train, which was completed in the past year

It is the world’s highest train and considered by many an engineering miracle

The journey takes three days to go from Guangzhou (near Hong Kong) to Lhasa.

The route runs from one end of the country to the other and is a great opportunity to see much of China

Along the way we spotted chiru (Tibetan Antelope), yaks, sheep, horses, birds and one human

The train was equipped with oxygen piped into each cabin

The most exotic and amazing place we've ever visited
